Activepieces is an open-source automation platform that can run in its cloud or on a team's own infrastructure. The product combines a visual flow builder with AI agents, tables, MCP servers, and API access. Its integrations, called pieces, are written in TypeScript and can be extended when a built-in connector is missing.

What Activepieces does well

Activepieces makes the self-hosted path less intimidating than many developer-first tools. Builders get a visual interface and reusable pieces, while technical teams can inspect or extend the integration code. The HTTP piece and webhooks cover APIs that lack a dedicated connector.

The credit model is favorable for long deterministic flows because a run normally costs one credit regardless of step count. Plus supports up to five users and bring-your-own AI keys. Using a team's model key reduces AI steps to one platform credit while shifting model charges to the provider bill.

Where it falls short

AI changes the otherwise simple run economics. Fast, smart, and frontier model steps add different credit amounts, and agentic actions add credits individually. Workloads with loops or many model calls still need measurement.

Self-hosting does not unlock every commercial feature. Activepieces states that paying adds the collaboration, governance, release, and agent layers teams need at scale. It also says its SOC 2 program is in progress, so buyers should not treat the product as currently certified.
